New RSE fellows
Professors Sue Black, Doreen Cantrell, Allan Findlay and Irwin McLean have been elected Fellows
of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Professor Allan Findlay is internationally recognised for his research on international migration
and population mobility. He has been Professor in the Department of Geography since 1994 and Head
of Department since 2002. He currently serves on the Royal Society of Edinburgh Inquiry into Energy
Issues in Scotland. Professor Irwin McLean is Personal Chair of Human Genetics in the Division of
Molecular and Cellular Pathology, School of Medicine. Irwin's lab identified the genes that cause
two inherited skin disorders: Kindler syndrome and LOC syndrome. The identification of these genes
has provided valuable insights into the ageing and healing processes of the skin.
Professor Sue Black OBE is Professor of Anatomy and Forensic Anthropology in the School of Life
Sciences. Since arriving in Dundee in 2003 Sue has established the UK's first 4 year degree course
in Forensic Anthropology and an MSc course in Human Identification.
Professor Doreen Cantrell is Wellcome Principal Research Fellow in the School of Life Sciences.
She is one of the world's leading researchers studying leukaemia and lymphomas, cancers of the
immune system.
