David Bellamy narrates DVDs for Project Atlantis
From the boglands of Ireland to the tropical rainforests of Belize, the renowned botanist,
writer and broadcaster David Bellamy has travelled the world to spread his message of conservation
and environmental awareness, but it was the less than tropical location of DJCAD that was his
latest destination.
Bellamy came to DJCAD to work with Elaine Shemilt, Steve Ellis, Paul Shafi and David Nicholls of
the Project Atlantis team. Project Atlantis is a not-for-profit organisation based in the
Springfield Incubator Unit. The Project manages the official website of South Georgia Island, a
haven for millions of birds and seals, which is located in the South Atlantic.
To minimise any negative impact or disturbance to the island's flora and fauna and historical
heritage the island’s government provides advice and guidelines for visitors. The Project Atlantis
team was commissioned to produce environmental briefing DVDs tailored for three audiences: cruise
passengers; operators, such as yachts and expeditions; and the military. In January this year the
team visited the island on board HMS Gloucester to film cruise ship visitors and the military on
the island.
The purpose of Bellamy's visit to DJCAD was to narrate the three DVDs. David Nicholls said, "David
Bellamy enthusiastically agreed to come up to DJCAD to narrate the DVDs. He was brilliant; he put
so much passion into his voice. He has added significant value to the impact of the visual
briefing material. We are very grateful to him for giving up his time to help us."
