Marion McMurdo, Professor of Ageing and Health, has been appointed Chair of BGS Scotland, the organisation which represens 150 hospital consultants specialising in the medical care of older people.

prize
Dr Miles Witham, Lecturer in Ageing and Health, has been awarded the Ferguson Anderson prize for the best poster presentation at the Derry UK BGS scientific meeting plus the Taylor Brown prize for the best oral presentation at the Dumfries BGS Scotland meeting.

conference
Over 50 delegates from all over the world attended Dundee's biggest and most successful philosophy conference for several years, which was held in May. The theme, "Values and Virtues: Aristotelianism in Contemporary Ethics", was addressed in more than twenty seminars, many of which will be published in an Oxford University Press collection.

award
Steve McGillivray, of the Division of Community Health Sciences, was lead author of a paper which recently won the award of John Dunne paper of the year. The paper was published in the Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine.

The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion is a new Award for people making outstanding contributions to the promotion of an enterprise culture in the UK. Up to ten Awards will be granted each year and a single Lifetime Achievement Award may also be awarded.

The Centre for Applied Language Studies offers University staff and students the chance to study French, German, Spanish and Italian at various levels for two hours per week at a discounted rate.

lecture
Rabbi Nancy Morris, Scotland's first female Rabbi, will present the annual Margaret Harris lecture at 5.15pm on Tuesday 2 November in the Chaplaincy.

The title of her lecture is 'Sexuality, law and Leadership: Pushing the boundaries of Orthodoxy.'
