Caribbean event
The Caribbean Research Seminar in the North, an interdisciplinary Research Seminar on the Caribbean
and its Diaspora, will be hosted by the Department of English on 22 October.
In association with the event, the department is also organising a day seminar on black British culture
and writing, which will take place at DCA meeting room on Saturday 23 October. Crime writer, critic and
broadcaster Mike Phillips will be giving a keynote speech at the seminar, on the theme of migration,
modernity, multiculturalism and transculturality.
In conjunction with these two seminars, readings by the internationally renowned writers E A Markham and
Mike Phillips will take place on 22 and 23 October at 6pm at DCA meeting room. Professor Geoff Ward will
introduce these distinguished guests and the reading will be preceded by a wine reception at 5.30pm,
hosted by John Smith’s bookshop. Attendance at all of the above events is free and all are welcome.
