Prize winning dental work
Final year dental student Alban Higgins has been awarded the Dall Medal, for his successful creation of an
upper central incisor.
Alban was one of a group of five dental students who entered the competition, organised by Dental Instructor
Bill Sharp. Bill said, "Each student put a great deal of time and effort into the fabrication of their metal
ceramic crown and the over all standard was very good."
The Dall Medal award is funded by a legacy bequeathed on William Dall's death in 1936 by his wife. William
Dall was an early innovator in British dentistry who specialised in the development of dental ceramic
porcelains. A jeweller in Fife, Dall went on to train as a dentist in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.
Alban was presented with the medal by Professor Bill Saunders, Dean of Dentistry and Head of Department of
the Dundee Dental School.
