Professor appointed to leading role
Professor Martin Chalkley, Head of the Department of Economic Studies, has been elected President of the
Scottish Economic Society.
Widely recognised for his research into the health services and already a Council member of the Society,
Martin will officially start his new post in April 2005. Until then he will take on the role of 'President
Elect', which involves deputising for the current President, Professor Elliott, at key events throughout the
year.
Professor Chalkley said, "It is a real honour to be elected to this position. The Society will continue in
its goal of raising awareness of Scottish economic issues on the international platform and in particular
highlighting economic issues that directly affect the Scottish public."
