Scots Fellows
The Philosophy department has been awarded £5,000 by the Scots Philosophical Club to bring four
distinguished professors to Dundee as Scots Philosophical Club Fellows.
Tim Chappell and Rachel Jones have invited professors Moira Gatens, Paul Patton, Charles Taliaferro and
Valerie Tiberius to come to Dundee as Fellows. Experts in the areas of Ethics, Continental Philosophy,
Philosophy of Religion and Political Philosophy, the professors will be examining human rights, virtues,
religion and the rights of marginalised groups.
The four professors will be travelling to Dundee from the USA and Australia to spend between three and
four weeks at the University during 2005 - 2006. During their visits they will be involved with lectures,
postgraduate workshops and tours to other Scottish universities.
Head of the Philosophy Department James Williams said, "When the problems we face become global, it is
essential for philosophy to open up onto the global connections and resources of deep thought and
critical enquiry. It is therefore thrilling to have been given this award and to have attracted
such a strong field of international researchers."
