From 26 September to 19 October 2003 University of Dundee Visual Research Centre and Dundee Contemporary Arts will play host to a unique exhibition and events programme, 'Breathing Space', to coincide with the opening of Architect Frank Gehry's first building in the UK, Maggie's Centre at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

The 'Breathing Space' exhibition charts the stages of Maggie's Centre Dundee from conception to completion, including Gehry's initial sketches, plans and architect models. It looks into the fascinating architectural and building process as well as the philosophy of Maggie's Centres that inspired the design of this new space. The exhibition also presents two remarkable films; the first a time-lapse film of Maggie's Centre Dundee in construction from the first foundation through to the centre opening; the second, a specially commissioned film 'Living Space' by artist Sarah Wood, exploring the essential relationship between architecture and health. There will also be a programme of free 'Breathing Space' talks taking place in Centrespace during the period of the exhibition led by architects, academics, health professionals and artists.
