Doors open day

The University threw open its doors to the public recently, to participate in the 13th Open Doors Day.

Visitors to the University Library Conservation unit were met by Chief University Conservator, Ylva Player-Dahnsjo and her team, who demonstrated some of the amazing techniques developed to conserve Scotland’s paper-based heritage.

The Wellcome Trust BioCentre invited Taysiders to see its pioneering medical research facilities, including the Post-Genomics and Molelcular Interactions Centre and the Centre for High Resolution Imaging, which houses one of the most powerful microscopes in the world.

The University’s vast archives collection was also on display, including the Peto Collection, featuring photographs of the Beatles as well as some stunningly beautiful images of Royal Ballet stars Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn.

The innovative structural composition of the Carnelley Building and Old Medical School Link Building was also on show. And the Cooper, Lower Foyer and Matthew Galleries hosted the Roadshow exhibition documenting the journey of 27 contemporary artists.

University Museums Curator Matthew Jarron conducted tours of the many other interesting buildings rarely seen by the public.
