Dundee outstrips the rest of Scotland in student applications

Student applications to the University of Dundee are up by almost 6% on last year at a time when nearly all other Scottish universities have seen their applications fall.

The official figures from UCAS show a downtrend of applications to Scottish universities of 1.1% but the University of Dundee has bucked the trend showing an increase which outstrips all other universities in Scotland. Director of Admission and Student Recruitment Gordon Craig said: "We have successfully raised the profile of the University of Dundee. People knew it as a good university with a good social life but now they are aware it is somewhere to do a course with a good economic edge where they can be better equipped for the jobs market.

Our new selection of courses has been very attractive to applicants. These courses bridge traditional subjects and train students in unique cross-disciplinary skills. Sports bio-medicine, innovative product design and interactive media design have proved to be winning combinations for our students."

The overall picture shows fewer applications from overseas (down 3.7% from 6,325 to 6,089) as well as from Scotland (down 1% from 154,535 to 152,995). But the University of Dundee’s figures buck the trend, showing rises in both overseas (up 10.4%) and Scottish applications (up 5.8 %).
