Student skills celebrated at University awards

Some of the University of Dundee’s most dynamic students are to be honoured at a special event.

The achievements of eight individuals will be celebrated at this year’s University of Dundee Awards Ceremony and Networking Lunch, which takes place at the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce on Thursday 2 May.

Encompassing the University’s Dundee Plus Awards and Student Volunteering Awards ceremonies, the event highlights the work of those who have taken on extra-curricular activities to develop their transferable skills.

Richard Pool, Employer Engagement Manager at the University’s Career Service, said, “All of our students work incredibly hard when it comes to their courses, but these awards give us the opportunity to honour those who go even further, whether it’s volunteering in the local community, or looking after a loved one.

“While people may not always realise it, these roles help to develop skills that are transferable to a workplace environment and can make a valuable addition to a student’s CV.

“These awards are a fantastic celebration of some of the University’s hardest-working and most dedicated students, and it is a privilege to share their stories with others in the city.”

The Student Volunteering Awards highlight the achievements of those who give up their time to help others in the local community, with nominations received from students, staff and external voluntary organisations.

Dundee Plus is a personal skills development programme that recognises the value of activities undertaken by students outwith their course. The initiative helps to identify the transferable skills they are developing, whether it is in the capacity of a community group leader, member of a sports club, or in a role as a carer or guardian.

As well as the award ceremonies, the afternoon includes an informal networking lunch, allowing winners to meet with leading local figures in business, politics and the third sector.

The University of Dundee Awards Ceremony and Networking Lunch takes place at the Dundee Chamber of Commerce, City Quay, on Thursday 2 May from 12pm–2pm.
