Professor Blair Grubb appointed Vice-Principal (Education)

The University of Dundee has appointed Professor Blair Grubb as its new Vice-Principal (Education).

Professor Grubb will join the University in August. He is currently Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) for the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool, a position he has held since March 2015.

A highly experienced Life Sciences academic and leader, Professor Grubb worked closely with undergraduates and postgraduates across his Faculty to improve student experience and engagement at Liverpool. Key achievements during this time include leading a team to reinvent the Psychology programme and leading a project to transform how student digital data is managed and used.

Following his appointment, Professor Grubb will join the University’s Executive Group and play a major role in Dundee’s ambition to become Scotland’s leading university.

“After four wonderful years leading major educational change at Liverpool, I am absolutely delighted to be joining the staff and students at the University of Dundee,” said Professor Grubb

“The University of Dundee has a fantastic reputation for high quality learning and teaching and I will be working with staff and students from across the University to think about how Dundee can capitalise on its excellent research to deliver new world class programmes. “

Professor Grubb holds a BSc Biological Sciences (Physiology) from the University of Edinburgh and obtained a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Newcastle. He was Head of the Department of Cell Physiology & Pharmacology at the University of Leicester for nine years prior to his appointment at Liverpool.

Professor Andrew Atherton, Principal and Vice-Chancellor at the University, said, “I am delighted to welcome Professor Grubb to Dundee. With his strong track record of achievement at leading universities, he was the outstanding candidate for this important leadership role.

“Student experience sits at the heart of our University’s strategy. This commitment has seen us ranked in the top 10 in the most recent National Student Survey and International Student Barometer, as well as achieving a Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework. Professor Grubb’s energy and vision will be critical to us bolstering learning, teaching and the wider student experience in the years to come.”
