Poacher’s Pilgrimage poised to pique interest

Award-winning author and peace and environmental activist Alastair McIntosh will give members of the public in Dundee something to write home about this week, as he shares the story of his pilgrimage through the landscape of his childhood.

The internationally-renowned peace activist and broadcaster will talk about his latest book, ‘Poacher’s Pilgrimage’ and the journey which inspired it, on Wednesday 23 January from 3-5pm at Tonic, Nethergate, Dundee.

His discussion with the University of Dundee’s Professor of Writing and Study, Kirsty Gunn, is the first in the latest series of ‘Writers Read’ events taking place this spring.

‘Writers Read’ talks are free to the public and this year include Scottish novelist Duncan McLean, author Kenny Taylor, as well as Sara Hunt, owner of the Scottish creative publishers Saraband.

Professor Gunn said, “We are delighted to have such an inspirational author to kick off our ‘Writers Read’ series. Alastair has created an altogether new kind of work of non-fiction and essay in his extraordinary account and we can’t wait to hear more.

“There will be the opportunity to ask Alastair about his twelve-day pilgrimage through the spectacular scenery and often strenuous conditions of life in the Outer Hebrides, so make sure to bring your notebooks, as there will be much to think about and discuss.”

The event takes place on Wednesday 23 January at Tonic, Nethergate, Dundee, from 3-5pm.

Tickets are free and there is no need to book in advance, though early arrival is encouraged to avoid disappointment.
