John Swinney to meet with Education students

Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP will visit the University of Dundee later this week to speak to the next generation of teachers in his role as Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills.

He will meet with students from the University’s School of Education and Social Work, who invited him to Dundee, along with staff from the School on Friday 8 February. Mr Swinney will speak about key matters relating to education in Scotland and answer questions from the student teachers preparing to enter the classroom.

Neil Taylor, Associate Dean at the School of Education and Social Work, said, “Our students rightly want to know everything they can about the profession they are about to commit themselves to and I applaud them for taking the initiative by inviting the Cabinet Secretary to come and answer their questions. We are delighted that Mr Swinney is willing to come and talk to our students about education in Scotland.”

Education at Dundee has been ranked 3rd in the UK by The Complete University Guide 2019 and 8th in the UK by The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. In addition to producing primary and secondary teachers through conventional routes, the University is pioneering a number of additional routes into teacher education.
