Gaming legend to discuss his virtual reality

One of the key players in Dundee’s video games industry is to help the city’s next generation of bosses take their careers to the next level.

Paul Farley, an integral figure in the creation of the iconic Grand Theft Auto series, will present an Entrepreneurial Masterclass at the University of Dundee on Wednesday 2 October.

Hosted by the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, Mr Farley will discuss his career in the video games sector, which has included management and creative roles within titles for mobile, console and PC platforms.

Having graduated from Dundee with a degree in Architecture in 1995, Mr Farley continues to work in the city in his role as CEO and Co-Founder of ChilliConnect, which provides support and services for the online gaming industry.

Brian McNicoll, Head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, said, “Paul has played a defining role in the development of the global video games industry, a sector that Dundee has been at the heart of for more than a quarter of a century.

“While he may have helped to create Grand Theft Auto’s Liberty City, Paul knows the business world even better and is proof that you don’t have to leave Scotland to rise to the top of your profession.

“We cannot wait to welcome him back to the University where his insight will help to inspire the country’s next generation of entrepreneurs.”

Wednesday’s event is the second in a series of Entrepreneurial Masterclasses being hosted by the Centre for Entrepreneurship, with fashion designer Dr Hayley Scanlan having spoken at the University last week.

Mr Farley’s talk, “From Joists to Joysticks – The Journey of a Videogame Entrepreneur”, takes place in the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, on Wednesday 2 October from 1-2pm.

Attendance to the Entrepreneurial Masterclasses is free but places must be booked in advance online.
