Sixteen students who wowed visitors to this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture Degree Show have been chosen to exhibit at Scotland’s most prestigious showcase for young creative talent.
The University of Dundee contingent will compete for prizes with a total value of more than £25,000 at the 11th annual Royal Scottish Academy New Contemporaries exhibition. The show will take place at the RSA Galleries in Edinburgh next February.
Fifteen artists and one architect from the University will be exhibiting, along with dozens of graduates of Scotland’s other art colleges who impressed judges with their work at their degree shows this year. The Dundee contingent will follow in the footsteps of the 161 graduates of the University who have exhibited at RSA New Contemporaries since its inception in 2009, winning more than £60,000 in prizes in that time.
The artists who studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design are Katherine Fay Allan, Rory Campbell, Daryl Cooney, Hannah Crooks, Iliana Francia-Elliott, Emma Goodwin, Emma-Louise Grady, Renee Hunter, Cal McCutcheon, Owen McLauchlin & Jodie Williamson (selected as collaborators), Lucia Pearla, Sam Renson, Jacob Scott and Jakub Stepanovic.
Georgios Chatzikomnou studied Architecture at the University’s School of Social Sciences. All 16 students will graduate at the University’s summer ceremony later this month.
Amy Cameron, Programme Coordinator at the RSA, congratulated the students, saying, “It is always a privilege to visit the degree shows around Scotland and we are continually impressed and inspired by the wealth of emerging talent on display.
“Graduation is an exciting but daunting time as you leave the support network of university to forge a career in the arts. The RSA New Contemporaries offers these graduates a fantastic opportunity to work towards, supporting them in the transition from student into emerging artist.”
New Contemporaries reflects the RSA’s commitment to supporting and presenting the best contemporary work in Scotland. The RSA team works closely with the artists and architects towards developing a lasting relationship in the lead up to the exhibition and beyond.
These recent graduates will have the opportunity to launch their careers at the RSA galleries by exhibiting a substantial body of work, including painting, sculpture, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation. Works will be for sale and the exhibition offers patrons the opportunity to invest in Scotland’s up and coming talent.
