Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences for students, but undertaking a degree in a foreign country can also make them miss the sights and sounds of home.
In an effort to make Dundee feel like a home-from-home, University of Dundee students will welcome famous Bulgarian singer, Tedi Eroteeva, as she performs at a Balkan Night on Thursday, 21st March.
The event, which takes place at Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA), will offer students, staff and members of the public the chance to hear music they may have never heard before. All of the proceeds from the night will go to Dundee’s Archie Foundation.
With more than ten cultures included in the Balkan region, the night promises to entertain all says Denitsa Hristova, event organiser and President of the Bulgarian Society.
“The Balkan region isn’t really your typical holiday destination, so by inviting Tedi to come and sing we get to showcase something special that possibly many people in Scotland haven’t heard before. It also gives us the chance to make Dundee feel like a real second home.”
With more than 300 attendees having already booked their tickets to see Tedi sing, others interested should book early to avoid disappointment, added Denitsa, a third-year Business Management student originally from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
She said, “Tedi is such an inspiration for young Bulgarians. She became of one our top sensations by reviving folk songs, some of which are hundreds of years old, and making them accessible for everyone.
“She did all of that whilst studying Pharmacology at university. We are incredibly proud to bring her to Dundee and we know she will fall in love with the city like we have.”
The Balkan region includes Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. Currently, there are more than 120 students from this region studying at the University of Dundee.
