Student to shave off 33 inches of her hair for cancer support

A University of Dundee student will swap her studies for scissors next month as she cuts off 33 inches of her hair to fundraise for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Danielle Naylor, a third-year Art and Philosophy student at the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, has decided to honour family members and loved ones who have passed away or are currently battling cancer by cutting off all her hair.
Inspired by her nine-year-old niece, Mirryn, who shaved her own hair earlier this month, Danielle hopes to raise more than £700 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
The 20-year-old, originally from Kinglassie in Fife, said, “Supporting the fight against cancer is a subject close to my heart so I am excited to give up something so personal. My hair is 33 inches from root to tip so it will be a huge change but I am up for the challenge.
“I think with winter coming, it is actually the best time of the year to do it. It’s almost hat season and a time for a new journey of self-discovery. People often notice me because of my long hair, so I’m excited to see what happens when I shave it off.”
Danielle will brave the shave on Saturday 20th October at the Kinglassie Community Hall.
