Legal Recruitment Fair a “win-win situation”

The next generation of legal professionals can put prospective employers in the dock as the University of Dundee prepares to host one of the sector’s largest recruitment fairs.

Hundreds of students and graduates are expected to descend on the University’s Bonar Hall on Monday 17 September to meet with legal firms from across the United Kingdom.

With Dundee ranked third in the UK for Law by the Guardian University Guide 2019, renowned national and international firms such as Womble Bond Dickinson, Pinsent Masons, and Dickson Minto will be among those looking to speak to students, alongside eminent local companies such as Thorntons and Blackadders.

As the University offers dual qualifications in Scots and English Law, Stephen Watt, Careers Advisor at the University, said that more employers from south of the border are keen to attend the Dundee fair.

He said, “Dundee Law School is ranked in the top 10 in all three main UK university league tables.

“This reputation for high standards means that employers from outwith Scotland are more motivated than ever to speak to our graduates. This means that there are more opportunities for them, while legal firms know that they are meeting with some of the best new professionals in the country. It’s a win-win situation.”

More than 30 companies are already confirmed to attend this year’s fair, with global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills among the first-time exhibitors.

“The biggest legal firms are always looking out for the best new talent and that is why they continually come to Dundee,” added Stephen.

“Our reputation for producing well taught, highly motivated graduates means that employers know that this is one event they cannot afford to miss.

“It also gives our students the opportunity to ask questions of them, from the availability of graduate training contracts to insight days and summer placements.”

The Legal Recruitment Fair takes place on Monday 17 September from 11am to 2.30pm in the University’s Bonar Hall.

The event is open to students and graduates from all universities, with no need to pre-register.
