Fearless fourteen to freefall for ARCHIE Foundation

Child-nursing students from the University of Dundee will take a 10,000ft skydive later this year as they fundraise for the ARCHIE Foundation.

A team of 14 students will make the jump on Saturday 9 June, 2018 in order to raise money for ARCHIE’s Tayside Children's Hospital appeal. All the donations they raise will go towards a new children's surgical day care unit, with two paediatric operating theatres.

This new unit will not only double the current operating capacity in Tayside but it will also transform the experience of the 3000 children who need operations in Ninewells every year, by providing child-friendly and age-appropriate spaces.

Laurie Roberts, a second-year child nursing student, said, “The Archie Foundation is a great local charity that raises funds for children and their families in the local area and further afield. Our donations will go towards the world-class twin suites that are being built at Ninewells.

“Currently all child dental work is carried out in adult facilities, so the children’s hospital appeal will make a big difference to children physically, emotionally and medically. We're really looking forward to the skydive and you never know, we could end up working in the new suites!"

Linda Meiklejohn, ARCHIE Tayside Fundraising Assistant, said, “We're thrilled that these amazing child-nursing students have chosen to raise money for The ARCHIE Foundation's Tayside Children's Hospital appeal.

“As they study for their qualifications they are seeing first-hand the difference the new operating theatres will make for children and their families.

“The fundraising skydive is such a lovely demonstration of the partnership between The ARCHIE Foundation, NHS Tayside and the University of Dundee.

“We wish them the best of luck with the jump and hope all their fellow students - and lecturers - will support them by donating whatever they can.”
