Dundee tops UK for forensic science, top 10 graduate prospects

The University of Dundee has been ranked top in the United Kingdom for Forensic Science in the 2019 edition of the Complete University Guide league tables.

Dundee also ranked 6th in the UK and top in Scotland for graduate prospects.

Professor Dame Sue Black, Co-Director of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science (LRCFS) at the University, said, “I am delighted that not only is forensic science top in the UK but that we have also risen five places to take the sixth slot in the UK for Anatomy & Physiology. This is testament to our staff and students in the Leverhulme Centre and our Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification, and their hard work, professionalism and commitment to quality – for which Dundee is renowned.”

Professor Niamh Nic Daied, Co-Director of the LRCFS, added, “These rankings are another sign that we have established Dundee as the premier place in the UK for the study of, and research into, forensic sciences. This is the platform on which we are looking to build further capacity to boost forensic science's contributions to the justice system and society as a whole.”

The University’s high ranking for Graduate Prospects continues a run of rankings which have shown Dundee to be one of the best places in the UK for employability of students.

Professor Karl Leydecker, Vice-Principal (Learning & Teaching), said, “We are now top in Scotland and sixth in the UK for graduate prospects, with over 85% of our recent graduates going on to graduate level employment or further study. This is testimony to the quality of the education and training we provide and the talent and hard work of our students. We have also seen a notable rise in the entry qualifications of our students to 15th in the UK, while our overall ranking of 31st sustains our overall position after strong rises in recent years.”

In addition to the number one placing for Forensic Science, Dundee achieved top ten places for the UK in another eight subject areas – Dentistry (2nd), Education (3rd), Medical Technology (5th), Anatomy & Physiology (6th), Biological Sciences (6th), Medicine (6th), Law (8th) and Art & Design (9th).
