Careers fair aims to surprise and inspire

Hundreds of people will begin their journey into the world of work this week as the University of Dundee hosts one of Scotland’s largest careers events.

Some of the country’s biggest employers will be in attendance at Careers Fair 2018, which takes place in the University’s Bonar Hall on Thursday 4 October.

With companies representing a variety of sectors, Richard Pool from the University’s Careers Service said that visitors could be surprised at the potential avenues of employment available to them.

“Employers are aware of the quality of graduates that we produce here at Dundee, exemplified by our receiving of the Gold Award – the highest possible rating – in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

“This means that they are keen to attend our annual fair and speak to as many students as possible.

“The quality of companies that attend this event also opens up more opportunities for our students, who are able to learn more about the latest graduate and trainee schemes that they may not already know about.

“Art students may find interesting opportunities within a company like Barclays, who are exhibiting with us, while social science students could see something that interests them with a life sciences firm like Amiculum, or a management position within a supermarket chain like Lidl.”

More than 40 exhibitors will be in attendance at the fair, with further household names such as PWC, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Lloyds attending alongside the Scottish Government, the RAF and Henderson Logie.

Last year’s event attracted more than 600 students and graduates, prompting more employers to attend this year’s Dundee fair.

Richard added, “The event goes from strength to strength as the reputation of the University continues to grow.

“With more employers choosing to exhibit here at Dundee, we’re looking forward to helping more people find the right career path for them.”

The event takes place in the Bonar Hall from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday 4 October, with students and graduates from all years, subjects and universities welcome to attend. There is no need to book in advance.
