V&A museum inspires new ice hockey jersey

The V&A Museum of Design Dundee’s impressive feat of engineering has inspired the latest jersey of the Dundee Stars – designed by a student from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design at the University of Dundee.
The new 8,000m2 building whose design itself was inspired by the cliffs along Scotland’s north-eastern coastline, now features on the jersey of the city’s ice hockey club as they skate the breadth of the country.
The 2017/18 Scottish Cup jersey was designed by fourth-year Fine Art student, Lucy Hendry. She said, “I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to design something as special as this. V&A Dundee was my main inspiration for the design as it is already attracting lots of buzz and adding to the already well established cultural life of Dundee.
“Dundee is a thriving city full of small businesses and students who bring with them lots of culture and diversity. From an artistic point of view, and as someone whose work mainly focuses on shape, the architectural structure of V&A Dundee is nothing like anything else Dundee already has so it is unique in itself. I have to thank the Stars for this great opportunity.”
Sarah Saunders, Director of Learning and Innovation at V&A Dundee, said, “We are absolutely delighted our museum building has helped inspire Lucy. Her dynamic jersey design perfectly represents the lines and shape of V&A Dundee stretching out into the River Tay and really encapsulates the fast-paced nature of ice hockey.
“We are honoured that people in Dundee are taking the museum to their hearts, and immensely proud to be part of this wonderful and creative city. It will be exciting to watch the Dundee Stars take to the ice wearing their new jerseys.”
The Dundee Stars' jerseys will be up for auction on Sunday, 15th October during their match against the Sheffield Steelers. Find out more about the Stars here.
