Top 25 place for Dundee in Good University Guide

The University of Dundee has been ranked as one of the UK’s top 25 universities in this year’s Times / The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

A five-place rise in this year’s rankings means Dundee now sits 23rd in the league table, which also highlights the fact graduates of the University enjoy better career prospects than their peers from almost any other institution in the country.

Dundee was placed 8th for employment outlook and sends more graduates into professional careers than any other Scottish university. It was also ranked among the UK’s top performers for teaching excellence and student experience.

In addition, the Guide authors highlighted how the University has a proud record of widening participation in higher education, recording the largest increase of any university in the proportion of students admitted from the most deprived 40% of postcodes in Scotland.

Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee, said, “I am delighted that we have not only once again improved our ranking among the top universities in the UK but that we are in the UK’s top 10 for graduate prospects, showing that we are equipping our students with the attributes to make an impact in the workplace and the wider society.

“We are ranked similarly highly for student experience and teaching excellence, which together show that Dundee is one of the best places in the country to study. This year has already seen us acknowledged as one of the World’s Top 200 universities and receive a Gold award in the inaugural Teaching Excellence Framework. Furthermore, I am pleased that our efforts to make university a reality for students from the most deprived sections of society have been highlighted.”

Sean O’Connor, President of Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA), said partnership was at the heart of the University’s success.

“DUSA and the University offer students a real opportunity to influence their entire student experience whilst working in partnership to ensure that everything from health and mental wellbeing to housing issues are taken care of,” he said. “This unparalleled access to decision making and bespoke support continues to drive Dundee deservedly up the league tables.”
