Students head to the Edinburgh Fringe for 21st year

Students from the University of Dundee will be treading the boards once again at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Members of LIP Theatre Company will take on two plays this August, in what will be their 21st year at the popular event. Both plays have also been written by students themselves.

‘Open Heart Surgery’ opens on Friday, 4th August and is about a relationship counsellor who is attempting to help her first ever same-sex clients.

Their second play, ‘Size Matters’, focuses on Jim Arrandale, a former household name. He is trying to make a comeback but no one wants to work with him. It will open on Tuesday, 15th August.

Incoming President of the company Rob Currie said, “LIP Theatre Company has a long tradition of bringing exciting new drama to the Edinburgh Fringe, and we're thrilled to once again be bringing two brand new plays to Edinburgh.

“'Open Heart Surgery,' and 'Size Matters,' are both bold and provocative productions, and we can't wait to present them to Festival audiences."

‘Open Heart Surgery’ runs from August 4th-13th and ‘Size Matters’ runs from August 15th-27th (not including 24th & 25th). Both plays will be showing at the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel.

Tickets cost £8 and £6 for concessions. To book go to edfringe.com or sweetvenues.com. You can also purchase them in person at the Edfringe and Sweet Venues box offices.

LIP Theatre Company is the University of Dundee’s student-led drama society. They give students the opportunity to get involved in all areas of theatre, from writing and acting to costume and set design. They put on a variety of productions every year, from Shakespeare to modern classics, to new writing from members of the society. To find out more go to www.liptheatrecompany.co.uk.
