Royal visit highlights Thailand connections for University

The University of Dundee welcomed a royal visitor this weekend with HRH Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand arriving to see the world-class education and training facilities in the School of Medicine at Ninewells.

The Princess has established the HRH Princess Chulabhorn College of Medical Science in Thailand. During her visit to the University she was shown areas of the medical school including Dundee's leading provision in clinical skills training.

Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, "We have been delighted to welcome HRH Princess Chulabhorn to Dundee.

"We have established strong links in Thailand, and indeed Her Royal Highness was able to meet some of our Thai students who are already here studying in Dundee.

"I am hopeful today's visit will lead to even stronger connections."

Among the students who met the Princess was Miss Kritchaya Ritruechai, who is currently studying for a Masters degree in Medical Education at the University.

"This is such an honour for us to be able to welcome Her Royal Highness to the University of Dundee," she said.

"We are here because of Dundee's world famous reputation for medical education and to share that with Her Royal Highness has been very exciting."

The University also welcomed a separate party from Thailand, from Thammasat Law Faculty, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that is expected to lead to more Thai Law students coming to Dundee to continue their studies.

"We have seen rapid growth in applications from Thai students to come here, attracted by our very strong offering in Law, and this agreement builds on the excellent relationship," said Professor Downes.
