Pixels at the ready for University’s 50th Anniversary

Teams of Minecrafters will take on the challenge of designing a new building for the University of Dundee in the virtual world during a marathon 50-hour jam session this weekend.

The University is inviting gamers, friends and families to ‘craft’ an iconic building in Minecraft on the Xbox One. Minecrafters attending the jam will receive support from 4J Studios, famous for bringing the world-renowned game to console.

The free event is being held as part of the University’s 50th-anniversary celebration. Anyone interested may join in Minecrafting by dropping in from 12-5 pm on Friday, 19th May, 10am – 5pm on Saturday, 20th and 10am -2pm on Sunday, 21st. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, “We are delighted to welcome anyone interested in joining our alumni as we celebrate the last 50 years of transforming lives and we look forward to seeing what the next 50 years could look like.

“Teams from across Tayside and beyond will compete to craft a brand new building in Minecraft with support from 4J Studios, who have previously built the V&A Museum of Design, Dundee in the virtual world and we absolutely cannot wait to see what they build here on campus.”
