‘Nursing in the 21st Century’ Café Science on 11th September

A University of Dundee lecturer will talk about how 21st century pressures have led to changes within the nursing profession at the next Café Science event.
Tom McConnachie, from the University of Dundee’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences, will be at Avery & Co, South Tay Street, on Monday, 11th September. He will explain how the University is helping to create a generation of resilient and flexible nurses.
As well as sharing his experiences from his own time as a nurse, he will also talk about how his current students are working with the army, school pupils and local communities to gain real life experience.
Tom said, “Nursing is a constantly changing profession, with new skills, roles and challenges affecting how nurses care for patients.
“As we’re responsible for training the next generation of nurses, we need to make sure that our students step into their wards with all the experience they need to provide the very best care.”
Café Science was launched in January 2008, and has attracted over 7000 visitors since then. The monthly events are informal discussions led by leading local researchers that allow members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the ground-breaking science at the Universities of Dundee and Abertay.
‘Nursing in the 21st Century’ takes place at Avery & Co, 34 South Tay Street, at 7pm on Monday, 11th September. The event is free and open to all. There is no need to book in advance but an early arrival is recommended.
