Gusi Peace Prize for Professor Ronald Harden

Ronald Harden, Emeritus Professor of Medical Education at the University of Dundee, has been awarded a prestigious international prize recognising his contribution to healthcare around the world.

He will receive a Gusi Peace Prize in Manila, Philippines, in November. The prize is awarded annually by the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, who chose Professor Harden for his “untiring efforts working for people’s amelioration through contributions in the field of medical education”.

Professor Harden is recognised as one of the leading international figures in medical education. He was formerly Teaching Dean at Dundee as well as director of the University’s Centre for Medical Education. The development of clinical competence assessment adopted as a gold standard internationally was among the many achievements of a career that also saw him receive an OBE for his contribution to Medical Education.

“These are exciting times in medical education and the award of the Gusi Peace Prize is an honour I treasure,” said Professor Harden. “I find it rewarding and stimulating that I have the chance to work with individuals around the world to promote collaboration and change in the training of health care professionals.”

Professor Harden continues to work in more than 40 countries and develop international collaborations and new approaches to curriculum planning, assessment, teaching and learning. He is editor of the journal Medical Teacher and General Secretary and Treasurer of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE).

The Gusi Peace Prize recognises individuals and organisations who have contributed to global peace and progress through a wide variety of fields. In addition to the award, the foundation carries out medical outreach in the Philippines. The Foundation commemorates the work of Filipino politician and human rights activist Gemeniano Javier Gusi.
