Graduates win top prizes at Undergraduate Awards

Two University of Dundee graduates have won global honours at the Undergraduate Awards, the largest international academic accolade programme.

Martha Andrews has won the Architecture and Design award and Jordan Skrynka took the honours in the Psychology category.  Both won in the face of fierce competition from students around the world.

The students were asked to submit an essay that covers a subject within their field.

Martha, who graduated in Interior & Environmental Design in June, wrote about her final-year project where she explored how interior design could help create a happier environment in hospitals.

Jordan, who graduated in Psychology in 2016, discussed in her winning essay how hunger can lead to poor decision making.

Cited as the ultimate championship of high-potential undergraduates, and often referred to as a “junior Nobel Prize”, The Undergraduate Awards is the world’s largest international academic awards programme, recognising excellent research and original work across the sciences, humanities, business and creative arts.

Professor Karl Leydecker, Vice-Principal (Learning and Teaching) at the University, said, “We are absolutely delighted that Martha and Jordan have been named as global winners in their categories.

“This is a fantastic achievement, alongside the other eight Dundee representatives who were highly commended. The Undergraduate Awards received over 6000 submissions from across 47 countries. It is great to see University of Dundee students named in these prestigious awards that attract entries from some of the world’s top universities.”

Martha and Jordan will collect their awards at a ceremony in Dublin in November.
