Edible experiments expected to wow

Bubbling beverages, insect cookies and ice cream frozen by liquid nitrogen are on offer this week as researchers at the University of Dundee swap the lab for the kitchen to cook with chemistry. 

Featuring tasty treats from local companies including the world-famous Jannettas Gelateria, scientists at the University’s School of Life Sciences are inviting people to come and try surprising snacks as part of this year’s Dundee Science Festival.

Ali Floyd, Public Engagement Manager, said, “We will creating a perfect pairing of food and science and exploring the links between bacteria and ice cream as well as the bittersweet relationship between malaria and tonic.

“We will be joined on the night by The Flame Tree Cafe who will be serving rainbow bagels, award-winning  Cairn o’Mohr with their delicious country wines and Sacred Grounds Coffee Company - a specialty coffee roastery based on the banks of the Brothock Burn in Arbroath.”

Tickets cost £5 and include a complimentary treat on arrival, the event is for 18 year-olds and over only and is supported by the Medial Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.

Street Food’ will take place at the Discovery Centre at the School of Life Sciences at the University from 6pm – 8pm on Thursday 2nd November.
