Dundee’s largest geek-off returns

One of the country’s largest anime, animation, videogame and cosplay conventions will take place at the University of Dundee next month as thousands of fans take to campus for Dundee’s annual geek-off.

On Saturday, 8th April the University will become a vibrant display of colour as superheroes, Stormtroopers, supervillains and other characters are expected to descend upon Dundee for a day of ultra-geekiness. This years’ event will feature activities such as talks by former Disney FX animators, a retro videogames tournaments and screenings of exclusive anime and alumni films.

DeeCon is organised by animation students at the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. It is a fundraising event with all proceeds going towards the animation degree show in May.

Margaret McCabe, a member of the organising committee, said, “We are extremely excited to be hosting DeeCon 2017. Dundee is the perfect place to be a geek and DeeCon is not short of attractions for the whole family to get into.

“This year we have invited major industry guests and we can’t wait to see what they reveal to our fans. We are looking forward to bringing everyone together, where they can share their work, meet like-minded people and have enjoy a fun-filled.”

The film screenings, videogame tournaments, stalls, exhibitions, demonstrations and industry presentations will take place across Dundee University’s Students’ Association (DUSA), the University Chaplaincy Centre and Queen Mother Building and the day’s fun will be rounded off with an anime pub quiz, karaoke and DJs in DUSA’s Floor 5 at the after party.
