Dundee ranked in UK’s top 30 in new Complete University Guide

The University of Dundee has risen six places in the Complete University Guide league table and now sits 29th in the UK in the 2018 rankings.

Dundee has climbed 20 places in the survey since 2015 and the University features in the UK’s Top Ten for six of the subjects it teaches in this year’s guide. The rise reflects Dundee’s strong performance across a range of indicators.

This latest accolade comes on the back of Dundee being ranked as the top young university in the UK and one of the best young higher education institutions in the world. The University has been named The Times & Sunday Times Scottish University of the Year in each of the last two years and is comfortably within the top 200 global institutions identified in the Times Higher Education’s World University rankings.

“There are many factors driving our rise in the Complete University Guide, including the fact we are one of the most research intensive universities of comparable size in the UK, our internationally renowned student experience and our excellent record in employability,” said Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University.

“This is a ranking driven by issues of concern for students and those considering which university to go to so it is especially pleasing that we have recorded another strong showing in it. I am also delighted that six of the subjects we offer have been recognised as being among the best in the UK.”

The main Complete University Guide table is based on ten measures – Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, Research Intensity, Entry Standards, Student: Staff Ratio; Spending on Academic Services, Spending on Student Facilities, Good Honours Degrees, Graduate Prospects and Completion. It includes 129 institutions.

The 70 subject tables look at five indicators of excellence – Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, Research Intensity, Entry Standards and Graduate Prospects – and rank 143 universities and university colleges accordingly.

Dr Bernard Kingston, Chairman of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, said, “It is ten years since TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk launched its online university league tables, and they have proved their accuracy, independence and robustness over the decade.

“The Government has said that applicants need access to robust, timely and objective information, based on criteria that are straightforward and easily understood. We believe that TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk meets these criteria and more and we intend that this will remain the case for the next decade – and beyond.”
