Dame Katherine Grainger returns to Dundee to give Christmas Lecture

Five-time Olympic medallist Dame Katherine Grainger will share some of the highs and lows of her extraordinary sporting career at this year’s University of Dundee Christmas Lecture.

As a professional rower, Dame Katherine has enjoyed phenomenal success, which she credits in no small part to the team mates she has rowed with during her career and those who worked behind the scenes at each Olympic Games and World Championships.

During the lecture, which takes place in the University’s Dalhousie Building on Saturday 18 November, Dame Katherine will give an insight in to what she believes are the essential elements to forming a successful team.

She is no stranger to Dundee having recently been awarded an Honorary Degree from the University in June.

She said, “It’s really lovely to be invited back to Dundee. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here in the summer and I was very flattered to be asked to present this year’s Christmas Lecture.

“Regardless of whether you are looking for inspiration as a sportsperson or in other areas of life, my own journey is undoubted proof that team work is key to achieving your goals.”

Now in its 11th year, The Dundee Christmas Lecture is a partnership event with Dundee City Council.  It was inaugurated in 2007 to commemorate the University's 40th anniversary and its close relationship with the city of Dundee and its people. The event will be followed by a book signing and Civic Reception, where mulled wine and mince pies will be served.

Free tickets for this event are available from online via Eventbrite, by calling 01382 385108 or by emailing events@dundee.ac.uk.
