Careers Service rated amongst country’s best

Students at the University of Dundee have ranked their Careers Service as among the best in the UK.

Dundee came 3^rd in the Career Services 2017 Awards operated by StudentCrowd, an online platform for students to review all aspects of their university experience. More than 7,000 students from across the UK were surveyed over the past year.

The University’s Careers Service offers a range of employability modules which students can take alongside their degree subjects.

The latest accolade comes on the back of Dundee’s success at the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services awards earlier this year when the team won the Research-Informed Practice Award, for their study into how their modules help to increase graduate success, and the Technology prize.

“Employability is embedded throughout all Dundee degrees and the Careers Service is at the heart of this,” said Shona Johnston, Head of Careers, Employability & Enterprise at the University. “We offer bespoke sessions and modules across all subject areas from first- to final-year. Alongside this, our friendly and approachable advice service is open to all students and recent graduates through a combination of workshops, employer talks, and much more.

“All of this is informed by our strong links with employers, from national and international giants to local companies and start-ups. Employers have opportunities to meet students at our five annual Careers Fairs and also contribute to enhancing our education provision, whether through offering mock interviews for module students or giving feedback to inform curriculum development.”

Recognising that University is about more than simply obtaining a degree, the Careers Service also works with Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) to recognise the skills that students develop in a wide range of extra-curricular activities through the Dundee Plus award.

In addition, students also have the opportunity to develop their skills through work and volunteering experience advertised on the Service’s Jobshop vacancy portal, and to gain teaching experience by participating in its School Tutoring Programme.
