Student takes on new role with ice hockey team

A current University of Dundee student will combine his studies with a new job at a local ice hockey team.

Elliot Shaw, a second year Business Management student, will take up the post of Commercial Manager at the Dundee Stars for next season. He’s familiar with the team having completed a placement with the club as part of his course.

Elliot said: “It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but it’s something I’m really excited about.

“I really enjoyed my placement at the Dundee Stars back in January and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to gain more experience and complete my degree at the same time.

“My main intention is to look after the portfolio of sponsorship the Stars currently has and to make sure that people in Dundee know that there is a professional ice hockey team in the city.”

The University of Dundee’s School of Business already has links with the Dundee Stars as part of a sponsorship deal. Each year the school sponsors a player to complete a fully funded place on the M.Sc. Management programme.

Next season’s sponsored player has been announced as Justin Faryna from Alberta, Canada.

Justin will be added to a trio of Canadian players who have been sponsored by the University, with this season’s player Lou Dickenson from Ontario and 2015’s player Marc Cheverie from Nova Scotia.
