Scenic sights on show at University

A selection of scenic views by celebrated Scottish and English landscape painters from the early 19th century until the present day will go on display at the University of Dundee tomorrow.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Scenic’, will be on display at the Tower Foyer Gallery. It includes previously unseen works by artists such as William York Macgregor, celebrated as the founding father of the Glasgow Boys, and Charlotte Nasmyth, a rare example of a highly successful female painter in the 19th century.

Curator Matthew Jarron explained, “We are proudly showcasing some of the University’s extensive collections of landscape paintings, many of which have not been seen in public for years.

“The exhibition includes masterful works from celebrated artists such as Joan Eardley, David Roberts and Thomas Miles Richardson to a series of Italian sketches by popular local artist Richard Hunter, created in 1958 during his travelling scholarship from Dundee College of Art.”

The exhibition will be open from the Friday, 1st June until Saturday, 27th August. Admission is free and ‘Scenic’ can be viewed between 9.30am-7pm (weekdays) and 1-5pm (Saturdays).
