Railway platform gallery coming to University of Dundee’s Centrespace Gallery.

An artist-led project space which is enjoyed daily by London commuters at Hackney Downs Train Station is making its way to Dundee

 

The group Banner Repeater will be hosting an exhibition at the University of Dundee’s Centrespace Gallery from Friday, 9th September.

 

They are dedicated to developing critical art through exhibitions, talks, performances and publishing, which is distributed directly into the hands of commuters travelling through the city of London.

 

In the exhibition ‘Publishing as Process’, Banner Repeater’s publications will be exhibited alongside a selection of artists’ books from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design.

 

Founder Ami Clarke said, “Our location means there’s around 4,000 passengers passing each day which allows us to distribute artists’ publications straight into the mainstream via the public transport networks. 

 

“After an invitation last year to the great artist-led space Generator Projects, I’m very happy to be returning to Dundee to present Banner Repeater’s publications at Cooper Gallery. 

 

“Over the last century artists working with text and publishing have experimented with new technologies and ideas of authorship in ways that have been really important in how we understand networked culture today. I’m looking forward to engaging with the great artist’s book collection at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and continue the conversation within a Scottish context.”

 

On Thursday 8th September at 4.30pm, Banner Repeater’s founder artist Ami Clarke will give a Curator’s talk about the publications exhibited and expand on the idea of ‘publishing as a process’.

 

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 9th to Thursday, 29th September. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 12-4.30pm.

 

Centrespace Gallery is part of Duncan of Jordanstone’s Visual Research Centre, which is located on the lower levels of Dundee Contemporary Arts.
