Dundee’s Botanic Garden will come alive with the sound of music, thanks to a University of Dundee student’s final year project.
Lily Hassioti, a fourth year Fine Art student from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, part of the University of Dundee, is asking people not to forget their phones, as they are essential to enjoy ‘The Garden of Evolution’. Lily has hidden a number of QR codes in the garden, made out of pebbles. Using a QR reader, it will connect the user to various sound pieces and voice recordings to describe the evolution of man.
Lily said, “It is a process of exploration that gets visitors to decode hidden messages. The QR codes work as connectors between the physical and the digital, augmenting reality and bringing an additional layer to the life to the Garden.
“Working in Dundee Botanic Garden has been a fantastic experience. It is such an amazing space and I was really happy to get it, especially since it fitted really well with my idea.”
It will open on April 29th and runs until May 11th. It will reopen to coincide with the University of Dundee’s Art, Design & Architecture Degree Show on May 20th-27th. Opening times are daily 10am- 4:30pm.
There will also be a free preview and garden party on April 28th from 4pm-7pm.
To enjoy the installation you must have a smartphone, headphones and a QR reader app.
