The University of Dundee’s Division of Cancer Research will next week welcome visitors keen to hear about its pioneering work to the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre.
The Division is hosting an Open Day from 10am-3pm on Saturday, 2nd July to showcase its world-leading research from the bench to the bedside. Demonstrations, lab tours and talks from cancer researchers will introduce the variety of cancer-related activities taking place at the Centre, situated on the Ninewells Hospital estate.
Dennis the Menace, the public face of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, will welcome visitors to the Centre, and a variety of family-friendly activities will be on offer. These include lessons in how to make DNA from strawberries, salt and washing-up liquid and the chance to find out what your skin looks like under a microscope.
Dr Colin Henderson, Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine’s Division of Cancer Research, said, “We are delighted to open our doors to the public and to give local people the opportunity to experience a flavour of the world-leading research that we carry out in the Division of Cancer Research.
“We hope that our first Open Day will be fun as well as educational and informative, and look forward to welcoming visitors to the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre.”
The Division of Cancer Research focuses on biological, translational and clinical cancer research with the aim of understanding the biological and behavioural mechanisms underlying cancer and translating this information into the clinic to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Research takes place around the themes of Imaging & Technology, Clinical & Translational Research, Molecular & Cellular Oncology, and Cancer Prevention and Screening.
