‘Innovation’ – 12th Annual Culture Day

Innovation and how it impacts on our daily lives – from the works of Pythagoras and HG Wells, to the weather and cinema – will be explored at the University of Dundee’s 12th annual Culture Day next week.

The Culture Day presents a wide ranging series of talks from scientists, historians, curators and others, all examining this year’s theme of `Innovation’. The event takes place in the University Tower Building on Wednesday 14th December and is open to students, staff and the public.

Organised by the University’s Culture and Arts Committee, the Culture Day has proved popular with a wide audience over the past decade. The event features a series of 15-minute presentations and is intended to showcase a range of subjects relating to the theme.

Eleven short lectures are planned to take place, including one focusing on HG Wells to mark 150 years since the science fiction writer’s birth.

Organiser Caroline Brown said, “This year’s Culture Day will be examining the past, present and future and how innovation impacts our daily lives.

“Our members will be approaching the subject from different directions and demonstrating how innovation has affected geography, technology, design, history and education.”

The Culture & Arts Committee aims to support and promote the various cultural activity at the University.

‘Innovation’ takes place from 1.30pm-5pm on Wednesday, 18th December. Admission is free and visitors are welcome to attend as much or as little of the programme as they like.
