The University of Dundee will be celebrating this year’s Festival of Museums with a special focus on fossils and ferns.
The D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum will be hosting ‘The Hunt Is On’ on Saturday, May 14th from 2pm-4.30pm. Visitors will be asked to take part in a hunt for fossils and along the way they will learn more about dinosaurs and other forms of prehistoric life.
On Sunday, May 15th there will be a series of family workshops called, ‘Getting Crafty with Fossils and Ferns’. Participants will take inspiration from the collections on display to design their own jute bag to take away, using paints, badges, stencils and stamps.
Assistant Curator, Hope Busák said, “Festival of Museums is a fantastic opportunity for the public to get involved with local museums and collections. We’re always keen to use our events to try something new in the museum and show off parts of our fantastic collections that visitors may have never seen before.”
Festival of Museums is an annual three day treat of extraordinary, exciting and surprising events in museums and galleries throughout Scotland.
Admission is free for both events, but booking is essential for the workshop. Tickets can be booked through http://www.dundee.ac.uk/museum/collections/zoology/events/
