Dundee to host sports championships

Scotland’s biggest student sports competition will tomorrow take place at the University of Dundee for the fifth time in six years.

The University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise will host the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Conference Cup Finals and around 400 student competitors from 12 institutions will descend upon the campus to contest 16 finals in badminton, basketball, football, hockey, rugby, netball, tennis and volleyball.

Dundee will be represented by its men’s tennis team, who will compete against their counterparts from the University of Strathclyde at the campus courts from 11am.

Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise said, “We are delighted to be welcoming leading student athletes from across the country to Dundee. This is the sixth time the University has been chosen to host the championship and the fifth time in the past six years.

“The Conference Cup Final is the biggest inter-university student sporting event in Scotland and the Institute is delivering the event in partnership with Scottish Student Sport, the coordinating body for all student sport and physical activity in Scotland.

“Top student sportsmen and women from a number of different sports will be competing to prove they are the best in Scotland, and they should all be congratulated for the hard work and commitment they have shown over the past season. Sport is a major part of the student experience at Dundee, and we are hoping that home advantage helps our men’s tennis team to victory.”
