Dundee the UK’s best in Times Higher Education '150 Under 50'

The University of Dundee has been revealed as the top ranking UK institution in the Times Higher Education '150 under 50 2016’, a ranking of the world’s top universities under 50 years of age.

Dundee is the best of 25 UK institutions included in the rankings (the most of any country) and the only one to appear in the top 40 places.

“The Times Higher Education 150 under 50 rankings showcase the best of the emerging universities around the globe so we are in good company and delighted to be among the top 20 and top in the UK,” said Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee.

“Our work at Dundee carries global impact and we have built an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching, while the experience we offer students has been consistently highly rated.

“This is another tremendous accolade for Dundee, following on from being named in THE’s world top 200, Scottish University of the Year, and best in Scotland across a host of measures including the National Student Survey and the International Student Barometer.”

This is the fifth year that Times Higher Education have produced their global under 50 rankings.

Phil Baty, Times Higher Education rankings editor, said, “The UK is the most-represented country in this year’s list of the world’s best young universities, boasting an impressive 25 institutions in the top 150. Eleven of these make the top 100, led by the University of Dundee in 16th place.”

The Top 16 universities in this ranking, including Dundee, also appear in the Top 200 of latest THE World University Rankings, which represents the elite one per cent of all universities in the world.

The University of Dundee was named the Scottish University of the Year 2016 by The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide. Dundee was also placed number one in Scotland in the most recent National Student Survey and the International Student Barometer.
