Dundee named among Europe’s top 100 universities

The University of Dundee has been placed within Europe’s top 100 universities in the latest edition of the Times Higher Education European University Rankings.

Dundee was ranked 94th in the table, which measured institutions on their teaching environment, research environment, citations (research influence), industry income and international outlook. The ranking is drawn from data used to compile the THE World University Rankings, using the same 13 performance indicators as in the overall rankings methodology.

The University of Dundee performed particularly strongly in the areas of citations, where it was among the top 10 per cent of European institutions, and international outlook, where it ranked in the top 20 per cent.

This follows on from Dundee being rated No.1 in Scotland for Student Experience in each of the last six years and being named Scottish University of the Year in the Times / Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.

Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee, said, “This is another positive result, which follows on from being named Scottish University of the Year and excellent showings in the Student Experience Survey and International Student Barometer.

“I am particularly pleased to see that our citations and international outlook rank among the best in Europe. This is testament to the world-leading research we undertake and the fact we operate on a global stage, welcoming students and staff from well over 100 countries to Dundee and engaging in projects which transform lives all over the world.”

Phil Baty, editor, THE World University Rankings, said, “The new Times Higher Education European University Ranking is based on the same rigorous and exacting group of 13 performance indicators used to compile the overall Times Higher Education World University Rankings, so it is a great achievement to make this new, prestigious top 200 list.

“All universities in the ranking have had to demonstrate excellence across a range of measures, covering the teaching environment, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, and stand out from the thousands of universities across Europe that did not make the cut.”
