Dundee and Abertay students raise thousands for vulnerable children around the world

Students from the Islamic Societies at the Universities of Dundee and Abertay raised almost £10,000 in one night for vulnerable children and orphans around the world.

The students, who form part of an international effort which sees fundraising from afar afield as Qatar and Canada for Islamic Relief, look likely to exceed their £15,000 target this year.

Aiming to raise as much money as possible in one week for orphans and needy children, they ran a series of fundraising events from an international food festival to a football tournament and managed to raise £9,406 during their Charity Dinner alone.

Farhan Ahmed, Law student and Charity Week representative from the University of Dundee, said, “We hope that our efforts during this week can be an inspiration to others as to what we can achieve when we come together for one cause. Charity Week is about bringing students together with a single aim that is to raise money to support orphans and needy children around the world.

“Last year we were fortunate to raise £13,000. This year we hope to surpass this target and be able to support more children in plight that desperately need our help. We will find out how much the Dundee appeal fundraised on Saturday, 12th November when the total will be announced.”
