The development of cardiology in Britain has its roots here in Tayside, where Sir James Mackenzie was born.

After a humble childhood in Perthshire he achieved worldwide fame as a general practitioner and pioneering cardiologist.

In Dundee, the Department of Cardiology has grown from modest beginnings in the 1920s to become an international centre of excellence.
