Urban Ramblers Marching On!
More than two million steps have been clocked up by University staff participating in the Institute of Sports and Exercise Urban Ramblers lunchtime walks.
Launched one year ago, the scheme was designed to encourage staff and students to get out of the office, classroom or lab at lunchtime and enjoy walking with others around the easily accessible city landscape. In the first year, 124 different staff from 40 separate departments have taken part in lunchtime walks, clocking up an estimated two million steps between them.
Urban Ramblers have enjoyed 17 different walk routes, including Camperdown Park, Balgay Park, the University Botanic Gardens and Magdalen Green. This opportunity to enjoy fresh air, new company and pleasant green spaces during the working day has certainly had a positive effect on those who have made use of this unique opportunity.
With the summer now upon us, Urban Ramblers is being extended to provide three weekly lunchtime walks, providing further opportunities for staff and students to build regular health walks into their daily routine.
If anyone wishes further information on walking for health or Urban Ramblers, they should contact Paul McPate on x84118 (p.mcpate@dundee.ac.uk).
