Students awarded for business sense in science
Dr April Kelly, Division of Cell Biology and Immunology, and Dr Mark Peggie, MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit, have been awarded bursaries totalling £6,000 from the School of Life Sciences for their work on a new course aimed at bringing management skills and life sciences together.
Students on the MBA Life Science Industries course - the first of its kind in the world - developed potential projects bridging the gap between science and business management.
Dr Kelly won the bursary for her presentation outlining a project which will develop a service related to cell sorting and analysis.
Dr Peggie will be looking at income generation for the Division of Signal Transduction Therapy within the School of Life Sciences.
Subjects covered on the MBA course include managing growth in the life science industries, industrial innovation in the sector and strategic management. Modules are completed at the students' own pace and the entire course only requires nine days out of the office.
