Blues and Colours awards for top sports achievers

Over 50 of the University's top sportsmen and women were presented with awards by Principal Sir Alan Langlands at the 2005 Blues and Colours awards.

The Sportswoman of the Year award went to second year medical student Mairi Crawford of the Ski and Snowboard Club. Mairi was crowned British University Ski Race Champion and picked up first place in the British Ski Championships in Meribel, France in 2004. Representing Great Britain at the 2004 World University Winter Games she finished 13th out of a total 150 competitors. Mairi is currently competing in the 2005 British University Championships in France.

The title of Sportsman of the Year went to second year biology student Andrew Clark from the Fencing Club. Currently ranked fourth in Scotland, Andrew was selected for the Great Britain senior squad for the 2004 Fencing Grand Prix in Bonn. Andrew is currently the Under 20's Scottish Champion and is hoping to be selected for the Scottish Commonwealth Games Fencing Squad.

Another second year medical student, Morag MacLarty, has been awarded the Stewart Campbell Trophy. This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated sporting excellence outwith a University club. Morag has been identified as one of the UK's most talented middle distance runners. She won gold in the 1500m race at the 2004 Youth Commonwealth Games in Australia and received an invite to attend the Kelly Holmes talent camp in South Africa.

The fencing club took the title of Club of the Year and Most Progressive Club went to volleyball.
